Well, after much research and asking a lot of questions, I have decided to give trucking a go.
I have a another question for anyone who might know.
I am 48, and in excellent health, except that I wear a hearing aid in each ear. My hearing was damaged in an explosion (how I survived is anyone's guess, but I count myself fortunate!!). I have driven regular vehicles for 25 years since, and my hearing aids have served me fine. Never had any driving related problem associated with the hearing aids.
Now, here is my worry. In researching the DOT physical requirements, I see it states that you must hear a whisper at not less than 5 feet with or without the use of A (single??) hearing aid.
Does this mean I would be disqualified if I have to wear a hearing aid in each ear?
I have asked a few trucking schools, they seem to think it does not matter if a driver wears a hearing aid in each ear.
Any idea??
And finally, do you think I will run into any "discrimination" in seeking a trucking job if a perspective employer sees my DOT card and the use of hearing aids?
Sorry so long winded. I appreciate any input from you truckers
Thanks
